The Archer BE900 is TP-Link throwing everything at one tower: quad-band Wi-Fi 7 with two separate 5 GHz radios, sixteen streams, and — the part that actually matters — two 10 Gbps ports, one of which is an SFP+/RJ45 combo that takes a fiber module directly. That combination is still rare in consumer routers at any price, and it's the reason this router makes sense at all.
It's built for a specific situation: a multi-gig internet plan, several wired rooms, and a household that genuinely loads the network from many devices at once. The four 2.5 Gbps LAN ports support link aggregation, TP-Link rates it for 250+ clients, and unlike the cheaper Archers it gets a WireGuard VPN server alongside OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP. For a home lab or a serious work-from-home setup, the port map alone does the selling.
What would make me hesitate is everything around the silicon. This is a large desk-bound tower — about 30 cm tall with no published wall-mount option — and the front is dominated by an LED touchscreen that shows the weather and the time. It's fun for a week; it solves nothing. More seriously, HomeShield follows TP-Link's usual pattern: parental-control and QoS basics are free, but the headline security features (IoT protection, IPS, DDoS prevention) need the paid Pro tier, which stings on a $699 router.
TP-Link publishes no coverage rating, CPU or RAM figures for it, so the spec sheet is thinner than the price suggests in places.
If your internet plan is 2.5 Gbps or slower, the Archer BE550 delivers most of this experience for a fraction of the money, and that's where I'd send most buyers. The BE900 is for the household that will actually light up those 10G ports.
